Important Precautions
- Tell your health-care practitioner if you are sensitive or allergic to any of the components of this drug or to any other drugs.
- Butalbital can cause physical dependence. Talk to your health-care practitioner about this possibility.
- Long-term use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage.
Pregnant Women
The butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine combination is associated with birth defects, delayed delivery, prolonged labor, and breathing problems for the newborn. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, talk to your health-care practitioner immediately. Regular use of this drug combination during the last 3 months of pregnancy can result in drug dependency in the newborn.
This drug combination passes into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding, your health-care practitioner will likely advise you to stop until you have completed treatment. Infants who breastfeed with women who are taking butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine may experience shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, or tiredness.
Seniors
Side effects may be more common and more severe in older adults. Especially troublesome may be lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting when rising suddenly from a lying or sitting position.
