How to Care for Ceramic Cookware

How to Clean Ceramic Cookware

Glazed ceramics can be washed in hot water with liquid dish soap. Most modern ceramic tableware, including stoneware and earthenware, is dishwasher safe, but check with the manufacturer to be sure.

How to Remove Stains from Ceramic Cookware

To remove stains from glazed ceramics, fill the item with a solution of 1 part chlorine bleach to 1 part water and allow it to sit overnight. Soak ceramic cookware in bleach and water only if it’s glazed on all surfaces. Unglazed surfaces can soak up water and cause the cookware to heat unevenly.

How to Maintain Ceramic Cookware

To avoid cracking, use ceramics only as recommended by the manufacturer. Most ceramics can sustain extreme temperatures but may crack if the temperature changes quickly. Do not transfer ceramic cookware directly from the freezer to the oven or vice versa. Avoid harsh abrasives, which may scratch the glaze.

How to Repair Ceramic Cookware

Broken ceramics can usually be repaired with glue, as long as the breaks are clean. Choose a food safe-two part epoxy glue for best results. Note that after repairing with glue, the item will no longer be dishwasher safe.
