Scoring in Casino
There are 11 total points available in each round of a game of casino. Each player scores the following point values for capturing:
- The highest number of cards: 3 points
- The highest number of spades: 1 point
- The 10 of diamonds (also called the “big casino” or “big 10”): 2 points
- The 2 of spades (also called the “little casino” or “spy deuce”): 1 point
- Aces: 1 point each
If players tie in the number of cards or spades captured, no player is awarded points in that category for the round.
Scoring a Game of Casino
Though classic casino rules dictate that the first player to reach 21 points is the winner, you may agree on any point total as the end point for the game. It’s common, for instance, for people to play until someone reaches 50 points.
Scoring Variations
Because casino is played so widely and is generally a casual card game, the rules are flexible and may vary from game to game and player to player. Before you begin a game, reach an agreement with the other players about exactly which rules you’ll be following. Common scoring variations for casino include:
- Sweep: When a player empties the layout on his turn, it is called a sweep. He scores 1 point.
- Shutout: A player who scores all 11 points in a round is awarded an additional point.
- Skunk: If a player shuts out his opponents in the first round, this is called skunking. The player automatically wins the game.
- Face cards: A player who captures all face cards in a round receives 1 point.
