Instructions
Rectangle (make 2)
- With A, ch 69.
- Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 3, skip next 3 ch, dc in each of next 2 ch; rep from * across, turn (13 ch-3 spaces). Fasten off A.
- Row 2: With WS facing, join B in first dc, ch 1, sc in first dc, 5 dc in each ch-3 space across, ending with sc in top of turning ch, turn (13 shells made). Fasten off B.
- Row 3: With RS facing, join A in first sc, ch 3, working over sts in last row, dc in next corresponding dc 2 rows below, *ch 3, skip next shell, dc in each of next 2 dc 2 rows below; rep from * across, turn. Fasten off A.
- Rows 4-21: Rep Rows 2-3 (9 times). Fasten off.
Finishing
- Sew the short side of one rectangle to the one end of the long side of the other rectangle (see diagram below).
Neck Edging
- With RS facing, join A at side seam on neck edge, ch 1, sc evenly around working sc in each dc and each ch-3 space, sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off A.
- Weave in ends.
Fringe
- Cut 12"/30cm lengths of colors A and B. Using 2 strands for fringe, fold fringe in half, insert hook from WS to RS in any ch-3 space on outer edge of poncho, and draw folded end of fringe through space. Then draw ends through loop on hook and tighten. Place one fringe in each space around outer edge of poncho or as desired. Trim fringe to desired length.
