Getting Started
Making this lovely poncho is just like making a long scarf or shawl. When you reach your desired length, simply sew the two ends together.
Slip Stitch
The slip stitch is a versatile and functional stitch. Use this stitch to create a firm finished edge or to join two finished crocheted pieces. Use a slip stitch to join a new skein of yarn to your crochet project or when you change yarn color. Combine the slip stitch with other stitches to form fancy stitches that just look complicated.
As versatile as it is, the slip stitch is most commonly used to join one end of a foundation chain to the opposite end, forming a ring. The ring then forms the foundation for working pieces in the round.
To make a slip stitch, insert your hook into a stitch. Yarn over the hook and draw the yarn through the stitch and the loop on your hook. You’ll have one loop left on your hook (see
figure 1).
Using Ribbon Yarn
Pay close attention to your gauge while using ribbon-type yarns. They’re often made of synthetic fibers, which makes them shiny, strong, and helps ribbon yarn provide a beautiful drape. However, ribbon yarns are less elastic and therefore less forgiving than some other types of yarn. To compensate for the extra bulk, you’ll likely need to use a larger hook to maintain proper gauge.

- 8 sts and 8 rows sc worked in front loop only = 4"/10cm

Pattern Notes
- All stitches are worked in the front loop only.
- This is a long scarf which when complete has the first 25 stitches and last 25 stitches of foundation chain sewn together as a shoulder seam.
