How to Focus Your Digital Camera
Digital cameras usually focus automatically, a feature known as autofocus. Some models also include a manual focus option that allows you to control which part of the shot appears in focus.
How to Prefocus
To take well-focused photos with autofocus, you need to prefocus, or focus the shot before you take it.
- Press the shutter button down halfway.
- Hold the button down halfway until the camera beeps. The beep indicates that the camera is focused and ready to take the shot.
- Press the shutter down all the way to take the shot.
How to Choose Where to Focus Your Photos
Most cameras focus on whatever is in the middle of
the frame when you prefocus. To focus on objects not in
the middle of the frame:
- Position your subject in the middle of the frame.
- Prefocus on your subject.
- After the beep, continue to hold down the shutter halfway and move the camera to reposition the subject where you’d like it to appear in the final photo.
- Without ever lifting your finger off the shutter button, press the shutter down all the way to take your photo.
