Crossbreeds

A crossbreed is a dog produced by mating either two hybrids or two dogs of different breeds. The popularity of crossbreeds has exploded recently, and today these “designer dogs” are in high demand. Some advantageous traits that breeders aim to manifest in crossbreeds include increased longevity, nonshedding or hypoallergenic coats, and a decreased risk of genetic disorders. Crossbreeds are not recognized as breeds because the offspring of two same-type crossbreeds do not breed true, meaning that the offspring do not have consistent, replicable, and predictable traits. In addition, the sizes of crossbreeds vary much more widely than those of regular breeds. Most crossbreeds live for 10–14 years.

Cockapoo

The cockapoo originated in the United States in the 1960s. It’s a companion dog, created from a cross between the poodle and the cocker spaniel and designed with the aim of producing a perfect pet. Touted by enthusiasts as the ideal blend of the poodle’s intelligence and nonshedding coat and the cocker spaniel’s warm disposition, the cockapoo is popular around the globe.
