About This Drug
Fosinopril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor that is prescribed as treatment for high blood pressure. It can be used alone or in combination with other drugs for hypertension. It is also used to treat heart failure.
Like other ACE inhibitors, fosinopril blocks an enzyme that produces angiotensin, a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict, and promotes production of aldosterone, which causes the body to retain sodium. Thus ACE inhibitors cause blood vessels to relax and reduce sodium retention, which lowers blood pressure.
