Important Precautions
- Tell your health-care practitioner if you are sensitive or allergic to fosinopril or to any other drugs, especially other ACE inhibitors.
- Fosinopril must be used regularly if it is to be effective, and you must continue to take it even when you feel better. Suddenly stopping fosinopril can result in a rise in blood pressure.
- If you develop a sore throat, fever, or swollen legs, arms, tongue, lips, throat, or face, or if you have trouble swallowing, contact your health-care practitioner immediately.
- Before starting fosinopril, tell your health-care practitioner if you have kidney or liver problems.
- This drug should be used with extreme caution if you are on dialysis or if you have received bee or wasp venom to protect against stings. Dangerous allergic reactions have been known to occur.
Pregnant Women
ACE inhibitors such as fosinopril can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. If you are pregnant, your health-care practitioner should have you stop this drug immediately.
Fosinopril passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. If you are breastfeeding, your health-care practitioner will advise you to stop until your treatment is complete.
Seniors
Older adults may encounter more side effects, and they may be more severe.
