About This Drug
Galantamine is a dementia symptom treatment adjunct used to treat the symptoms of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease. It is not a cure for the disease, nor can it change the course of the disease.
This drug blocks the action of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that helps break down a substance called acetylcholine. A loss of acetylcholine has been associated with a decline in cognitive functioning.
