Important Precautions
- Tell your health-care practitioner if you are sensitive or allergic to galantamine or to any other drugs. The 12-mg galantamine tablets contain a dye called E110, which causes an asthma-like reaction in some people, especially those who are allergic to aspirin.
- Galantamine should not be used if you have severe liver or kidney conditions.
- Before talking galantamine, consult with your health-care practitioner if you have liver or kidney problems, a heart condition, galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption, recent gut or bladder surgery, urinary difficulties, stomach or duodenal ulcer, acute abdominal pain, or epilepsy.
Pregnant Women
No adequate studies of the effects of galantamine on pregnant or nursing women have been done. Animal studies have shown that the drug can cause birth defects and other problems with the fetus. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you and your health-care practitioner should weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks.
Galantamine may pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding, your health-care practitioner will likely advise you to switch to bottle-feeding.
Seniors
No special precautions have been noted.
