Gin Rummy Basics
Gin rummy, also called gin for short, is a member of the family of card games descended from rummy, and one of the most popular games among casual card players. The object of the game is to score the most points over several rounds by drawing and discarding cards in an effort to create particular groupings of cards, and to limit the number and value of your unmatched cards.
A Brief History of Gin Rummy
It’s believed that E. T. Baker, a card player in New York, invented gin rummy in 1909 as a variation on another card game, basic rummy. Though gin was a little-known parlor game in its early years, it became widely popular during the 1940s after tabloids reported that movie stars enjoyed playing it in their spare time. There’s even a popular scoring variation of gin rummy called Hollywood gin.
