Instructions
- Make a twisted wire loop, using the round-nose pliers to hold the 24-gauge wire about 3/4" (1.9 cm) from the end. Bend the wire around the pliers. Slide the silver clasp onto this loop. Hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers and twist the wires around each other to secure. Cut off the shorter wire end.
- Place one 5mm howlite bead on the wire. Bend the wire 45° and make a new loop using the round-nose pliers. Use the chain-nose pliers to hold this loop, and then wrap the wire around itself to complete. Cut off the excess wire.
- Create a new loop with the wire as in step 1. Slip this loop through the closed loop made at the end of the 5mm howlite bead. Hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers and twist the wire again to secure it. Cut off the shorter wire end.
- Slide a 23mm agate bead onto the wire. Bend the wire and make a new loop.
Cutting & Assembling the Chain Lengths
- It’s very important for this project that each of the eight chain segments has exactly the same number of links. Measure only the first 1" (2.5 cm) segment, then count the links for the other seven before cutting them. With this method of counting links—more precise than measuring the segments with a ruler—you'll wind up with identical lengths of chain. Slide two 1" (2.5 cm) segments of chain onto the wire so they hang from the loop formed in step 4. Hold this new loop with the round-nose pliers and wrap the wire around to secure it. Cut off the excess wire.
- Slide one 5mm howlite bead onto a 2" (5.1 cm) ball-end head pin. Place one of the chains you’ve just strung plus another loose chain segment onto the head pin. Add one 18mm agate bead. Place the second chain segment onto the end of the head pin and add another segment of loose chain (figure 1).

- Bend the end of the ball-end head pin in step 6 with the round-nose pliers, make a loop, and wrap it around to secure the two beads and chain segments. Cut off the excess from the head pin.
- Slide one 5mm howlite bead onto a 1" (2.5 cm) ball-end head pin. With the round-nose pliers, bend the head pin, make a loop, and place this loop onto the closed loop you just formed at the bottom of the 2" (5.1 cm) ball-end head pin in step 7. Use the chain-nose pliers to hold this loop and wrap the length of the head pin around itself. Cut off the excess from the head pin.
- Make a new wire loop and place both of the loose chain segments that you attached in step 6 onto the loop. Wrap the wire to secure. Cut off the shorter wire end. Slide a 23mm agate bead onto the wire, bend the wire, and make a loop.
Making the Last Half
- Place the fifth and sixth chain segments onto the loop formed in step 9 and twist the wire to secure. Cut off the excess wire.
- Repeat steps 6 through 9, adding the remaining stones to arrive at the other end of the bracelet. Loop the wire at the end of the 23mm agate bead, bend it around using the chain-nose pliers, and cut off the excess wire.
- Make a twisted wire loop and attach it to the loop at the end of the 23mm agate bead. Slide the last howlite bead onto the wire; bend the wire 45°. Make a loop with the round-nose pliers. Hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers and wrap the wire around to secure.
Finishing the Bracelet
- To finish the bracelet, make a catch for the clasp with wire. Make a small wire loop using the round-nose pliers. Slide it through the last loop and wrap to secure. Cut off the shorter wire end.
- Using the large rubberized round-nose pliers, hold the wire and bend it around to form a large loop. Hold the loop you’ve created with these same pliers and wrap the wire around the twist you made in step 13. Cut off the excess wire.
