Instructions

  1. Separate the two slide clasp pieces while making the bracelet, always being careful to attach each strand to the correct loop.
  2. Begin by making wire loop links to attach the chain to the slide clasp. Loop the 24-gauge wire around the round-nose pliers about 3/4" (1.9 cm) from the end of the wire. To make the loop larger, wrap the wire around the pliers at a thicker part of the jaws.
  3. After you’ve made the first loop, thread the slide clasp onto it. Place the chain on this loop before wrapping the wire around to secure it. Hold this loop with the chain-nose pliers and twist the wire around it to secure. Cut off the shorter wire end. When placing the chain on the other three wire loops that will be connected to the slide clasp, always be sure to place the chain on the same side of the loop to maintain consistency (figure 1).

  4. Hold the remaining wire with the round-nose pliers and loop it again. Cut the attached chain to about 1/2" (1.3 cm) in length so that you can attach a new piece. Slip a new chain length onto the other wire loop. Hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers and wrap the wire around the twist you made in step 1. Cut off the excess wire.

Placing the Stones

  1. Now for the fun part! This bracelet requires you to experiment. The stones are randomly placed throughout, which means the length of the chain between each stone is completely up to you.
  2. Attach a stone or stones (more than two is not recommended) to the end of the first chain by making a loop in the wire about 3/4" (1.9 cm) from the end. Attach this loop to the end of the chain. Hold this loop with the chain-nose pliers and twist the wires around to secure. Place a stone or stones onto the wire, bend the wire 45°, and loop it again using the round-nose pliers.
  3. Attach a new length of chain onto this loop and hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers. Wrap the wire around to secure and cut off the excess wire.
  4. Repeat steps 6 and 7 on both chains until you reach the length you need and are ready to attach it to the other half of the slide clasp. The top chain on the first end should remain the top chain on this end, too. Therefore, the top chain will need to be slightly longer because it needs to reach the first loop of the wire link (figure 2).

  5. Repeat steps 1 through 3, but in reverse, attaching the bottom (shorter) end to the looped wire first. Twist it to secure. Use round-nose pliers to bend the wire a second time and slide it through the slide clasp. Place the second chain on this same loop. Hold the loop with the chain-nose pliers. Wrap the wire around the twist you just made and cut off the excess wire. You’ve finished the first length of the bracelet.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 9 three more times to complete the bracelet. As you work, study your completed sections to make sure you’re not placing similar stones too close together. Plan the length of the chain segments so the stones are interspersed throughout.
