Instructions

Be sure to work on a surface that’s covered by a piece of cloth or felt. It’ll keep the beads from rolling away and help you keep different types of beads separated. Here’s a tip: If you’re working at the kitchen table, put your cloth on a plate so you can easily move your project should anyone decide to serve dinner while you’re working.

Stringing the First Row

  1. Arrange the spacers on your work surface as shown in the drawing below.
  2. Cut a 12"-long piece of beading elastic. Attach a piece of masking tape to one end.

  3. Begin stringing the top row of beads. Thread one spacer, six seed beads, and one spacer.
  4. Measure the distance between the spacers by holding one of the other spacers between them. There should be a seed bead on either side of the extra spacer. Adjust the number of seed beads from step 3 if you need to.
  5. String the number of seed beads you figured out in steps 3 and 4 between each spacer, until all the spacers on the top row are strung.
  6. Cut the masking tape off the end of the elastic. Tie a square knot in the ends (see figure below) and trim the excess.

Adding the Second Row

  1. To add the second row of beads, repeat step 2, stringing the beading elastic through the bottom hole of one of the spacers at the end of the top row (see the drawing below step 1).
  2. String one seed bead, one spacer, and one seed bead.
  3. Repeat step 8 until all the beads on the second row are strung. Take the masking tape off and close the tie with a square knot.

Adding the Third Row

  1. To add the third row of beads, repeat steps 7, 8, and 9.
  2. If you decide to add a fourth row, go through the bottom hole of a spacer on the third row. Add the number of seed beads you figured out in step 4, then go through the next spacer.
  3. Repeat step 11 until all the spacers are strung.
  4. Cut off the masking tape and tie a square knot in the ends of the elastic.
