Getting Started

The beaded, braided bracelet in this project is simple to make. If you know how to braid hair, you can make this bracelet!

Skill Level

  • Beginner

Materials

  • Rainbow blue seed beads, 11°
  • Matte cobalt blue seed beads, 6°
  • Silver fluted round beads, 3mm
  • 6 blue faceted beads, 6mm
  • Spool of beading thread, size D
  • 2 silver eye pins
  • 2 small silver end cones
  • 2 small silver jump rings
  • Silver lobster-claw clasp and large jump ring
A note on bead sizes: Some beads are measured by how many will fit on one inch of string. This number is expressed as X°, meaning that X number of beads will fit on one inch of string. For instance, beads of 11° will fit 11 to an inch of thread. These bead sizes are pronounced with an "oh" at the end, as in “eleven-oh.”

Tools & Supplies

  • Small bowl
  • Beading needle, size 10
  • Clear nail polish with nylon
  • Safety pin
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • Round-nosed pliers
  • Wire cutters
This project uses neail polish to glue some of the knots and beads. However, it’s important to find a brand with nylon in it (the type used to strengthen nails). Regular nail polish (without nylon) uses a chemical that could melt the bead thread or damage beads. Nail polish with nylon is pretty common and easy to find.

Finished Size

  • Approximately 6-1/2" (16.5 cm)
