Instructions

Be sure to work on a surface that’s covered by a piece of cloth or felt. It’ll keep the beads from rolling away and help you keep different types of beads separated. Here’s a tip: If you’re working at the kitchen table, put your cloth on a plate so you can easily move your project should anyone decide to serve dinner while you’re working.

Making the Strands

  1. Mix all of the beads together (except the 6mm faceted beads) in a small bowl.
  2. Thread the safety pin through an eye pin and pin it to your work surface or a piece of cloth.
  3. Thread the beading needle with approximately 10" (25 cm) of thread. Tie the other end of the thread to the eye pin attached to the safety pin. Put a dab of nail polish on the knot to keep it from slipping as you work.
  4. Now, go back to the bowl of beads and string 5" (12.5 cm) of beads. Somewhere on the strand, string two of the 6mm facets, with a matte cobalt bead on either side of each one.
  5. Put a piece of masking tape on the thread after the last bead so the beads won’t slip off as you work. Cut the thread beyond the tape.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 two more times, making a total of three strands of beads.

Brading the Strands

  1. Braid the strands together.

  2. Remove the tape from one strand and tie it to the other eye pin. Dab nail polish on the knot. Do this for the other two strands.
  3. String the eye pin through one of the end cones. Make a loop in the end with the round-nosed pliers (see figure below) and trim the excess wire with the wire cutters.

  4. Repeat step 9 on the other end of the bracelet.

Attaching the Clasp

  1. Open the small jump rings (see figure below) and attach them to the loops of the end cones. Before you close the jump rings, attach the lobster clasp to one side and the large jump ring to the other side. Close both jump rings.
