Instructions
- Cut three 10’ (3 m) lengths of 4-ply waxed linen. Tie one of these lengths around the temporary mold, leaving a 4" (10.2 cm) tail. (This band will form the top opening of the pouch.)
- Thread the long end of the linen with a tapestry needle, and begin looping around the band with 34 to 44 loose loops spaced about 1/8" (3 mm) apart around the circumference of the mold (see photo).

- Continue to loop, maintaining a consistent size and tension against the mold. When you have completed several rows, thread the tail back through them. Cut off the end and hide it inside the pouch.
Splicing in More Thread
- Splice in a new 10’ (3 m) piece of linen (see photo). To add or splice in thread or fiber, you’ll join together the ends of the thread. Begin by separating the strands that you want to connect so they’re each about 1" long (figure 1).

- Cut away about half of the strands, so the joined-together ends are the same thickness as the thread (figure 2).

- Twist or roll the two ends back together (figure 3). As you continue to work, treat this joined area carefully so you don’t pull the connection apart. Now you can continue looping without interruption.

- When you have completed approximately 18 rows, slide the woven piece to the bottom of the mold to close the bottom of it (see photo).
Finishing the Pouch
- Finish the base of the pouch by decreasing the looping (see photo).

- After you add your last regular row of looping (figure 4), stitch through every other loop on this row to form the next row, drawing the loops closer together and reducing the size of the piece (figure 5). As you do this, also decrease the loop size slightly to account for the larger space left by skipping a loop.

- Pull the last loops together to close the piece, and thread the tail back through the rows as you did in step 3.
- Cut two 12" (30.5 cm) lengths of waxed linen to make a drawstring. Thread a tapestry needle with one of the lengths. Stitch in and out of the second row of loops around the top of the pouch, leaving one loop blank between each stitch. Use the second length of linen to thread the fourth row on the opposite side (figure 6).

- Make a loose half-hitch neck cord from the 4-ply waxed linen, and use a tapestry needle to attach it to the pouch.
Adding Baubles & Dangles
- Use the wire cutters to cut four pieces of 18-gauge silver wire, each 4" (10.2 cm) long. Forge the end of each to create a paddle shape. Loop and twist the other end to create silver dangles (figure 7).

- Thread beads onto the ends of the drawstrings (figure 8). Then, on the ends of each thread, tie on a silver dangle using a square knot.

- Place objects inside the pouch before pulling the drawstring to close it.
