Getting Started
The method of adding beads in this project is called the Bead Over Slip Stitch technique. Beads are first strung onto the yarn before you begin knitting. When working on the knit side, when you reach the stitch where the pattern shows a bead, bring the yarn to the front of your work, slide a bead down to the needle, slip the next stitch purlwise from the left needle to the right needle, and then bring the yarn to the back of the work and continue knitting.
When working on the purl side, when you reach a stitch where the pattern shows a bead, bring the yarn to the back of the work (the knit side on this row), slide a bead down to the needle, slip the next stitch purlwise from the left needle to the right needle, and then bring the yarn to the front of the work (the purl side of this row) and continue purling. This causes the bead to hang on a horizontal strand of yarn in front of the slipped stitch.
Try it in simple black and white, as shown, or in bold colors, changing beads and yarn colors with each row.
