Instructions

Afghan

  • With B, CO 114 sts. Work four rows in the garter stitch. Keeping four sts at the beginning and end of each row in the garter stitch in B, work rows 1–8 from the pattern until the afghan measures 54-1⁄2"/138.4cm. Change to B, work four rows in the garter stitch. Bind off all stitches.

Finishing

  • Weave the ends in.

Fringe

  • Make enough fringes to attach across the two edges of the afghan. Cut a cardboard strip approximately 6" in width. For each fringe, wrap the yarn around the width of the cardboard the number of times indicated in the pattern. Cut the yarn free along one edge of the cardboard. Remove the yarn from the cardboard, and fold the strands in half. As shown in the figure below, use a large crochet hook to insert the strands through the back of the afghan, capturing the looped yarn. Pull through. Pull the yarn loop around the edge and draw the fringe tail inside of the loop. Pull the tail to tighten, and trim the bottom edges.

  • For this afghan: Using A, wrap the yarn four times around the width of the cardboard strip. Repeat using B. When attaching the fringes to the edges, * attach one fringe of A, and three fringes of B; repeat from * across, ending with A, then trim the ends of the fringe.
