Side Effects
Consult your health-care practitioner if you develop side effects while taking one of these drugs. Only he or she can determine whether it is safe for you to continue taking a loop diuretic.
- Common: frequent urination (up to 6 hours after a dose), dizziness or lightheadedness when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, changes in blood levels of potassium and possibly other electrolytes, a decrease in magnesium, an increase in blood sugar or blood uric acid levels
- Less Common or Rare: appetite loss, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, rash, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, confusion, tingling in the arms and legs, rash, temporary hearing loss, jaundice, acute gout attacks
Beware of symptoms of low blood potassium (hypokalemia), which may include excessive thirst, dry mouth, decreased urination, drowsiness, weakness, lethargy, muscle pain or cramps, abnormal heart rate, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, and low blood pressure.
