Side Effects
Speak to your health-care practitioner if you develop side effects while taking methyldopa. Only he or she can determine whether you should continue taking this drug.
- Common: drowsiness (especially at the start of treatment), dry mouth, headache, weakness, fluid retention, swelling of feet or lower legs, weight gain
- Less Common or Rare: increased angina or chest pain, rash, joint pain, muscle spasms, depression, decreased mental acuity, anxiety, nightmares, loss of interest or ability in sex, swollen breasts, unusual milk production, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, lightheadedness, numbness, tingling, yellow eyes and skin, fever, chills, difficulty breathing, fast heartbeat, fatigue, dark or amber urine, pale stools, liver problems, involuntary movements
