Side Effects
Contact your health-care practitioner if you develop side effects while taking this drug. Only he or she can determine if you should continue to take methylphenidate. In some cases, side effects can be controlled by adjusting the dosage or eliminating afternoon or evening doses.
- Common in Children: loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach pain, trouble sleeping, abnormal heart rhythms
- Common in Adults: nervousness and trouble sleeping
- Less Common or Rare in Adults: appetite loss, weight loss, stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, chest pain, abnormal heart rhythms, changes in blood pressure or pulse, fever, arthritis-like symptoms, headache, drowsiness, hair loss, itching, rash, severe jerking or twitching, visual disturbances such as blurred vision, severe psychotic reactions
