How to Buy Mushrooms
Mushrooms are sold fresh, dried, frozen, canned, and blanched and sliced. When buying mushrooms that aren’t fresh, look for an expiration date on the product’s packaging. When buying fresh mushrooms:
- Choose: Mushrooms that are firm and intact.
- Avoid: Mushrooms that are wrinkled, spotted, or slimy. Also avoid discolored mushrooms with a split cap and dry stem, as these are signs of a lack of freshness.
