Side Effects
Speak to your health-care practitioner if you develop side effects while taking this drug. Only he or she can determine if you should continue to take potassium.
- Common: diarrhea, nausea, gas, stomach discomfort or pain, vomiting
- Less Common or Rare: low blood pressure, muscle weakness, heaviness in the legs, tingling in the hands and feet, confusion, rash, abnormal heart rhythms
In rare cases, people taking potassium develop hyperkalemia (high blood potassium levels). Those with kidney disease are especially susceptible to this problem. Stop taking potassium and contact your health-care practitioner at once if you develop symptoms such as low blood pressure, muscle weakness, tingling, heaviness in the legs, breathing difficulties, confusion, listlessness, abnormal heart rhythms, restlessness, and pallor.
