How to Practice Your Speech
Once you’ve planned the content, organization, and structure of your speech or presentation, it’s time to practice it—as many times as you can. Repeated practice is the single best way to calm your jitters, fine-tune your delivery, and ultimately feel fluent and confident in front of your audience.
Techniques for Practicing
Try the following techniques to make your practice as effective as possible:
- Record your voice.
- Videotape yourself doing a run-through of your presentation.
- Experiment with different styles, delivery methods, pacing, and so on.
- Practice in front of someone.
- Practice again and again.
- Watch what a good speaker does and attempt to emulate it.
