Getting Started
Although quilts have always been prized for their layered textures, incorporating beads into a design adds a whole new level of interest and appeal. Sometimes a handful of beads is all you need to accent a quilt’s pieced patchwork or appliquéd landscape scene.
The materials list will help you estimate the quantity of beads needed to duplicate the featured project. However, a good way to be sure you have enough beads is to spill them into a saucer or plate, corral them so they’re touching, and measure the area they cover. Compare this to the area you expect to cover on your quilt and purchase more beads if necessary. It’s smart to have more beads on hand than you need. If a bead cracks, has rough edges, or has a faulty hole, you’ll be covered.
