Important Precautions

• Always inform your health-care practitioner about any other medical conditions you suffer from, especially congestive heart failure, angina (chest pain), abnormal heart rhythms, or other heart problems. Also tell your health-care practitioner if you have kidney or liver disease.
• Quinapril can affect your kidneys, especially if you have congestive heart failure. If you already have kidney disease, your dosage should be lower than usual. Your kidneys must be monitored while you take this drug.
• Before having any type of surgery, anesthesia, or dental procedure, tell your surgeon or dentist that you are taking quinapril.
• This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Until you know how quinapril affects you, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or perform other tasks that demand concentration.
• Treatment of high blood pressure also entails certain lifestyle changes, such as weight control, smoking cessation, and close attention to diet.
• When you first start taking this drug, you may feel lightheaded and experience dizziness or faintness when you rise quickly from a sitting or reclining position (postural hypotension). Try to get up slowly, and consult your health-care practitioner if the problem continues.
• Be extremely careful when you exercise in hot weather. Heavy sweating can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, vomiting, dehydration, and low blood pressure.
• Do not take this drug if you have ever experienced an allergic reaction to it or to other ACE inhibitors. If you have an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face and mouth and a sudden problem with breathing, seek immediate medical attention. Also contact your health-care practitioner immediately if you develop a sore throat and fever or yellow eyes or skin.
• Your health-care practitioner will monitor your response to this drug with regular blood counts and other tests.
