Getting Started
A fabulous pattern calls for fantastic fabric. In this featured top, a pattern for a sleeveless blouse with lined bodice and asymmetrical hem was taken to the next level in beauty and appeal by using chiffon.
You should attempt using chiffon only after you’ve gained a bit of sewing experience. Chiffon must be treated delicately. In an ideal world, it should be cut out on a non-slippery surface, such as felt, with the pattern pieces held in place with weights designed for that purpose. Be sure to use silk pins as you work through this project. Set your machine to a light tension and a shorter-than-normal stitch length. If you’re wary of using chiffon, remember that your pattern envelope will suggest a variety of other fabrics.
