Getting Started

The flower in this project begins as a long strip of fabric. You can change the size of your flowers by changing the dimensions of your fabric strip.

Fabric flowers can stand alone, or you can add leaves for additional color, texture, and realism. Leaf edges can be left raw, folded, or serged. Consider your fabric when deciding what type of leaf to make and how to finish the edges.

Skill Level

  • Beginner

You Will Need

  • 2 pieces of fabric for leaves, each 6" (15.2 cm) square
  • Strip of velvet fabric for flower, 4" x 22" (10.2 x 56 cm)
  • Foundation fabric, approximately 4" (10.2 cm) square
  • Scissors
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Sewing machine, or needle and matching thread
  • Pin back (optional)
