Getting Started
In this project, you'll learn how to start with a pattern and make embellishments and modific ations to it to create a beautiful skirt in the fabric of your choice. Remember, when picking a pattern, to pay attention to the style, fit, and construction information on the pattern envelope. Also remember to read through the fabric suggestions, notions, and fabric requirements so you'll be sure to get everything you need while you're at the store.
In this example, a pattern for a skirt with a zipper and multiple ruffles was used. Vintage lace trim was added around the skirt for extra playful appeal.

Special Sewing Tip
When you’re stitching together a very full skirt, arrange it carefully around the free arm of the sewing machine. Stitch until you can’t easily manage the bulk of the fabric in front of the machine. Stop stitching, gently pull the skirt under the free arm to the back, and resume stitching.
