Stretching Exercises
The following stretches are some of the most common stretches suitable for beginners. They have been grouped into six categories—five categories corresponding to specific regions of the body, along with one additional category for stretches that stretch the entire body and improve overall relaxation:
- Neck stretches
- Back stretches
- Shoulder stretches
- Hip and side stretches
- Arm and leg stretches
- Full-body and relaxation stretches
Since all of these stretches are at roughly the same level of difficulty, you can feel comfortable trying them in any order. You can practice them either by targeting the specific parts of the body that you’d like to stretch or by working through one of the complete stretching sequences included at the end of this guide. In performing any stretching workout, always remember to:
- Warm up before you stretch
- Hold each stretch for at least 20–30 seconds
- Cool down after every stretching session
