Three Card Poker Basics

Three Card Poker®, also called Tri Poker, is a simple, fast-paced casino table game. The game allows you to pit your three-card hand against the dealer’s or simply to bet on the outcome of your hand. It has competitive odds, is easy to learn and to master, and offers camaraderie with other players at the table.

History of Three Card Poker

In the mid-1990s, a British poker player named Derek Webb invented Three Card Poker, which he originally called Casino Brag. Seeing the game’s potential for commercial success, a company called Shuffle Master bought the rights to Casino Brag and began distributing it under the name Three Card Poker. The game can now be found in many major casinos throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Three Card Poker’s popularity has been on the rise since its inception.

The Three Card Poker Table

Three Card Poker is played at a table specifically designed for the game. A typical Three Card Poker table accommodates up to seven players and the dealer (though the sample table below shows space for just three players in order to focus on the details of the table).
Each player’s space has areas for three types of bets:
  • The Ante bet
  • The Play bet
  • The Pair Plus bet
Payout schedules are written on the table next to the betting spaces. These are for your reference and indicate how much you win when dealt particular hands.
