How to Vacuum Furniture
The best way to vacuum furniture depends on the type of furniture you’re cleaning and on whether you’re using an upright or a canister vacuum.
To Vacuum Fabric-Upholstered Furniture
- With an upright: Never use the base of an upright directly on the furniture. Instead, use the hose attachment with the upholstery tool connected.
- With a canister: Use the upholstery tool attachment.
With both canisters and uprights, adjust the suction power based on the toughness and thickness of the fabric that you’re vacuuming. Use less suction for delicate or thin fabrics, and use more suction for thicker, more durable fabrics. Always vacuum from the highest point on the furniture to the lowest, so that you collect dust that falls off the furniture. You can use these same guidelines for vacuuming beds and mattresses as well.
To Vacuum Leather, Vinyl, or Nylon Furniture
Follow the guidelines for vacuuming fabric-upholstered furniture, but use the dust brush tool rather than the
upholstery tool.
How Often Should You Vacuum Furniture?
Try to vacuum your furniture at the same time you vacuum your carpets and floors. Plan to vacuum furniture at least once a week, or ideally twice a week.
